King Ayisoba
In Ghana he is one of the biggest stars and for more than a decade he is conquering the whole world with his trance-like kologo (a 2-string lute made from calebas and goat skin) playing and his raw political messages. Once called “A West-African Captain Beefheart meets Bo Diddley” but just as much a Ghanaian answer to Fela Kuti with the imagination and groove of Lee Perry, an artist he has also worked with in the past.
His playing is percussive and melodic at the same time, his songs are catchy and barb-wired with social political messages that makes your head spin while your pelvis is shaking. King Ayisoba brings an other greatness with him on tour: Ayuune Sule, who is a magician with the sinyaka, a percussive instrument from Ghana’s Upper East and gifted with a voice sweet and soulful like honey-wine.
Ayuune Sule
is a kologo player too and will also be performing solo on this tour. He released an album two years ago that was in high rotation at UK’s BBC radio.
The music of King Ayisoba and Ayuune Sule has been released on Arnold de Boer’s Makkum Records, the man behind ZEA and also singer/guitarist of Dutch underground band The Ex. De Boer has been working with King Ayisoba since 2012, and will be joining King Ayisoba on stage too in this new set.

Zea
is Arnold de Boer: minimal, full-on, electric, acoustic, eclectic, strange-edge. Deploying guitar and sampler for intense and high energy songs. Urgent lysrics in English and in Frisian (his first language). Sometimes intimate, heart felt, poetic, at other times driven on roughshod beats and grimy bass lines. Joyfully obstinate, wonderfully bonkers.
