What does it mean, when exhibition rooms have become inaccessible?
The Kasseler Kunstverein addresses this question in the exhibition “CHOLERA – I THOUGHT I SHOULD NEVER SPEAK AGAIN”, a 6-hour light-sound composition by the artists of RHO Collective & Chor Language (Glossa), apart.
Although the Kassel Art Association, like so many cultural institutions across Germany, must keep its doors closed to visitors, doesn't mean that, that there can be no exhibitions. Both exhibition organizers and visitors are invited, to explore new perspectives. Cholera offers daily from 17 -11 p.m. the perspective, to experience the exhibition space from the outside through the windows of the Kassel Art Association.
CHOLERA – I THOUGHT I SHOULD NEVER SPEAK AGAIN is the start of the exhibition cycle “Holobiontic Architecture” by the RHO collective founded in Kassel and, according to the origin of the word, thematically deals with the choleric temperament.
„CHOLERA – I THOUGH I SHOULD NEVER SPEAK AGAIN (15.02.-07.03.), That's the title of a show combining light and sound, is the result of collaboration between two actors: The collective RHO, founded in Kassel, and the choir Γλωσσα, which operates between Cologne and the Ruhr area (gloss). RHO takes action, about ways to integrate complex light- and sound systems, into the existing structures of rooms and tries to do so, whose traditional patterns can be experienced in a new way for all the senses- and make it perceptible. Im Zentrum der Arbeiten von Glossa (gloss) stands for the unexplored and rarely tested potential of the voice in everyday life, including all the shame- and rule-laden stereotypes, to which it is exposed. Language (gloss) challenges the individual, to question old conventions.
CHOLERA, According to ancient theory of juices, this is yellow bile – dry, hot anger. But anger doesn't always present itself in the same form; she moves through stages, Moods, comes to us in unexpected moments. Considerations, which result in a performance of a separate form: One presented every day, A composition of light and sound that takes on these diverse shades of anger. It is an ambitious attempt, to translate all the countless facets of the choleric mind into a six-hour original composition, which is never the same. Light tonal constitutions and possible variants of vocal tracks mix, after staying in front of the windows for a long time, the light patterns of the film spotlights. Strange with increasing intensity, might surprise you. CHOLERA tests an installation-based comparison with current political hot spots, that open up to us everywhere, while cultural life lies fallow. Once again, anger is the word of the hour. The temperature is constantly increasing, without being able to identify a corresponding valve. Like the same thing (global and national) Happening of a movement of fundamental rage, a constant progression. So much, that the body breaks through the threshold of the merely sculptural and interacts with one another inside and out. Urgent invitations to be with oneself as “excluded” observers and yet in the hall, to observe, to listen, to listen to yourself, to be doubled.”
