Gallery holiday
multiple days
⬇English version below ⬇
Gone away, Overlooked, Something that has fallen out of time - the works of art by Tamara Becerra Valdez focus on things and people, which are often on the fringes of society and public perception. With the precise gaze of a contemporary archaeologist, she invites the viewer, to identify the traces of temporal overlaps in the seemingly banal and everyday. In Materialabnutzungen, Markings and objects of the affluent society that have gone out of fashion or become obsolete merge the not-yet-finished with the already faded, hope that never completely dies with an unadorned view of the present.
As part of her first solo exhibition in Germany, the artist from Chicago shows objects made of concrete and found materials that are reminiscent of books, which suggest legibility and seclusion at the same time. This, newly created sculptures during her stay in Kassel in the last few weeks, enter into dialogue with a billboard designed by the artist on the corner of Artilleriestrasse and Bremer Strasse, which is used for the first time as an integral part of the exhibitions on the holiday.

Thrown away, overlooked, fallen out of time — The works of Tamara Becerra Valdez often center things that exist on the margins of society, as well as the public perception. With the precise view of an archeologist of the present, she invites the viewer to find the traces of simultaneous temporalities in the seemingly banal and everyday. In worn materials, markings, and out-of-fashion or obsolete objects of consumerist society, the not-yet-finished merges with the already faded, and moments of hope shine through an unpolished view of the present.
For her first solo exhibition in Germany, the artist shows book-like objects made from concrete and found materials that suggest readability and withdrawal at the same time. These new sculptures, made during her stay in Kassel in the last couple of weeks, enter into a dialogue with a billboard location at the corner of Artilleriestraße and Bremer Straße designed by the artist, which will be presented for the first time as an extension of the Feiertag gallery space.
