Opening of the anniversary exhibition “Intervention is desired!“ Protest, Criticism, Freedom: Actions by ASL students, 1973-2003
Gravestones for the Nordstadtpark, golden VW engines, a huge table and occupied factory buildings – The ASL students intervened in the design of the GhK and its surroundings. A critical appraisal.
“Intervention is welcome!“ – the request comes from “carlo!” from the student magazine “plan-o-phobia” (17/1995) and represents an active culture (university) political participation. The interference at that time was not just limited to helping shape teaching, Administration and university policy, but also testify to the courage and will to provide critical and creative support for Kassel's urban development. The exhibition presents a selection of protest moments in lively formats and organizes them in a differentiated manner into those of the time (city-) social, political, university and ideological context.
Organizing the exhibition as a student project creates freedom, to put actions and methods of protest into today's context and try them out in new ways. The exhibition asks about a current culture of protest and encourages it, to interfere yourself.
