The latest project by Kassel percussionist Steffen Moddrow presents a psychedelic power trio in the sound corridor, where Miles Davis worlds on electric guitars, Bass eruptions and keyboard bell steel meet, driven by orchestral fusion drums. Space rock grooves shoot into abandoned circus arenas, Reverberations make room for crashing trumpet echoes, backed by earthy bass ostinatos.
The Kassel performance artist and percussionist Steffen Moddrow meets the Berlin guitarist and producer Dave Schmidt aka Sula Bassana, known from the international psychedelic rock scene and the Bremen multi-instrumentalist Uli Sobotta, both in avant-garde jazz-rock, as well as in new music.
Together the three develop an equally powerful one, ecstatic and lyrical rock-jazz style, often undermined by electronic mantra waves.
Steffen Moddrow stages Schlagwerk solo performances and works as a theater composer. At the end of the 90s he played with the ex-Zappa musician Jimmy Carl Black. Here in Kassel he was and is in countless projects, among others. with the saxophonist Martin Speicher and the multi-instrumentalist and performer Axel Kretschmer as the stereo attachés. www.instagram.com/moddrow
Dave Schmidt, alias Sula Bassana, has been on stage as a multi-instrumentalist since the mid-1980s. He founded 2004 his psychedelic record label “Sulatron Records” and was a band member of the group Can, the space rockers Hawkwind and Ax Genrich from Guru Guru. Uli Sobotta studied classical guitar and has been... 1984 as a euphonium player, Guitarist and soprano trombonist active in various ensembles. He plays and composes music for concerts, Theater, Radio plays, Performances and readings. He has appeared on numerous tours, including:. in England, the United States, of Switzerland, Belgium and Russia.
Ines Schäfer has been studying since 2015 at the Kunsthochschule Kassel and works in the Mounira Al Solh performance class. 2021 she was a guest at the dance- and Performance Festival GIEßENER EINTRITTE with their work BODYSSEY and took part in 38. Kassel documentary- and video festival. Ines Schäfer combines the media of video in her work, Performance, Installation, Painting and sound.
