Holes as tunnels – Anna Holzhauer
in collaboration with Milena Albiez and Lena Katharina Reuter
Book presentation
The artist Anna Holzhauer, who works in Kassel, deals with questions in her work, what space is and how space is constructed. In her sculptural practice, she searches for the connections between line and contour, not only, to develop their sculptures, but also, to understand institutional spaces in the context of art. In doing so, she deals with the inside and outside, with the closed and the open, but also with that, what is simultaneously one and what is excluded, inevitably to a preoccupation with their environment outside of art.
In Anna Holzhauer's publication “Holes as tunnels” (published 2020 published by Kettler) these questions are accompanied by their own archive. Photographic notes and drawings show various relationships within her work, document the work process and carefully feel for breaks and gaps. A publication was created in collaboration with the designer Milena Albiez and the cultural worker Lena Katharina Reuter, which creates access to Anna Holzhauer's work practice and enables new perspectives page by page. The publication moves the photographic documentation into the background and sets archive, Works and drawings in new, narrative context. With her text, the author Miriam Stoney reacts to the various narratives and her essay becomes a collaborative intervention. Stoney works with language in academic and performative contexts and in her writing practice she addresses various physical and psychological relationships.
The publication and collaboration between the artist, Designer, Editor and author introduced. The opportunities and challenges of a horizontal collaboration are discussed.
