Layers, levels, stack. Liska Schwermer-Funke works in a friendly, confrontational way. Whether in painting, Installation or performance – it brings elements together, which are drastically dissimilar and initiated with color, Material and action unexpected encounters between irritation and support.
In her abstract, large-format paintings, bright lines meet swampy surfaces, clearly defined shapes in a snotty gesture, Acrylic paint and spray paint on chalk and colored pencil. The image elements falter or come into their own, rub or complement each other, challenge yourself. During the painting process, Schwermer-Funke repeatedly reacts layer by layer with contrasts to the previous image. Starting from the current situation, she is always looking for the next step, which makes what is available a bit more exciting, more complete, makes it more complex.
For the exhibition “Schichtwechsel” the artist detaches her paintings from the wall and develops them into the room. Equipped with roles, they become mobile image objects, the rooms of the art association become a dynamically playable image space, the visitors become converts between the levels. The artistic process does not end with the finished picture, but continues through relating and positioning in space. You are invited to move the position of the individual images together with the artist, to dare to play with what is already there and to initiate change with curiosity.

The exhibition opens every hour on the hour: the artist moves her paintings in space, drastically re-curates, shakes up what has gone before and creates new relationships, On- and perspectives. And boom, then she paints again!
