The way from Tamara Qaddoumi has taken many turns. The artist born in Kuwait with Palestinian, Lebanese and Scottish descent initially studied theater studies and acting, before she turned to music and songwriting. Already with their EPs “Dust Bathing” (2018), “Soft Glitch” (2021) and “Sorry Signal” (2024) Tamara Qaddoumi proved her talent, profound, to create atmospheric music. With “The Murmur” she is now taking the step into an even more complex one, more complex sound world. On her first full-length album, Qaddoumi emerges as an artist, who has grown up and is facing the challenge, redefining the boundaries of their musical comfort zone; a zone, which is continually changing and growing. As a songwriter, which has explored profound existential themes such as grief and death, Qaddoumi has matured into a skilled traveler through the dark corridors of human existence, but also through the beauty, which lies underneath, and tender hope, that it is actually within our reach.
“The Murmur” was created in collaboration with Antonio Hajj, Tamara Qaddoumi's musical compass and the architect of her unique sound – an alchemy of lush electronic soundscapes, a ghostly touch of trip-hop and dream-pop as well as Qaddoumi's unmistakably beguiling voice. “The Murmur” oscillates between light and shadow, Chaos and clarity – searching for anchoring in a world, which is constantly moving.
Marilyn Harvest from Kassel makes a flat indie pop / Dreampop mix with a nod to the chanson in places. The 20-year-old singer Nele has been leaving her mark on the music scene in various constellations for years, as well as all-round musician Luca Hettling. Now they are doing this together with their new project Marilyn Harvest and combine melancholy and world-weariness with an impressive expression and an unparalleled charisma.
The songs are direct and uncluttered transcriptions of feelings straight from the heart, which are sometimes dreamy musically, but sometimes also form an angry carpet of sound. The headstrong one, her smoky voice fits perfectly into her compositions. These are reminiscent of a mixture of Patty Smith and Lana Del Rey with touches of artists, like Cocteau Twins or Etna. Marilyn Harvest fit seamlessly into this series.
Thematically, that’s what frontwoman Nele is all about, Between- and shades of gray to be revealed and, above all, normalized. Through her texts, gaps are intended to become normal spaces, said the singer and guitarist about her high expectations, social goals. There is no otherness, if everything is normal. And the musical mastermind Luca does the same thing in the sound images. First 2022 the two started the project, above all, because they were already fans of each other before. From the beginning there was a blind musical understanding of each other. No negotiation processes, acoustically, how visually unique and made from a single piece.
The duo's second concert took place directly at the Kassler Kulturzelt 400 people. Support shows followed, Appearances at the Open Flair Festival and studio stays. A first work was created, which is exceptionally sophisticated and complex. A debut, which has already outgrown this name before release.
