“The modern migrant workers. Migrant workers fighting for their rights”
Book presentation and discussion with Stefan Dietl
They work in slaughterhouses, in nursing, on the construction, in the logistics sector or in agriculture, but also in the industrial sector and their exploitation is increasingly forming the basis of the German export model. Temporary migrant workers, who regularly leave their homes for a few weeks or months, to work in Germany.
Although they are everywhere and without them, production in numerous sectors of the economy would come to a standstill, they mostly remain socially invisible. The work of these modern migrant workers is characterized by life-threatening working conditions, systematic wage robbery and the circumvention of labor law norms.
Stefan Dietl describes the precarious work- and living conditions, who shape the everyday life of migrant workers in Germany and the last, for example in the meat industry and in the agricultural sector, also caused a stir in the media. He also deals with the resistance of those affected, reports of construction site occupations, strikes or demonstrations and outlines the hitherto little noticed approaches to the joint organization of migrant workers in the fight for their rights.
