The sugar project:Heirs are devoted to a piece of North Hessian history and the question, How it should be remembered in the future. After a long research come in summer 2023 Eight artistic works of regional and international artists together in one exhibition.

The starting point is the historical event of the so -called "English inheritance". This reached some villages around Homberg (Efze) one 1830, enabled the construction, Acquisition or expansion of about 20 Half -timbered yards. The peasant son Johann Georg Wicke was around 1790 broken up from Unshausen to London, where he generated great fortune as sugar songs. He was largely inherited from his relatives in Northern Hesse, those in villages between Homberg (Efze), Borken and Fritzlar lived and should buy land from the inheritance and build houses. What influence the inheritance had on the village structures at the time and how does it continue? What is happening, If there is money with once and who actually asks, Where did it come from? Sugar made of sugar cane was one of the colonial products and commercial goods at the time, with which a lot of money could be earned. This was, among other things, due to the exploitation of enslaved people, z.B. in the Caribbean, possible. How can this empty space be integrated into the previous stories? Should we not remember the story instead of as a "English inheritance" as "North Hessian" and "Caribbean inheritance"? In any case, it is part of North Hessian history that shows, that the region was historically not a closed room, but was shaped by international interdependencies. How do we want to deal with the inheritance?
