Seasonal work in agriculture means one thing above all: a high degree of flexibility in terms of time and space, precarious and insecure employment relationships, and a lack of social security. Mobile employees – whether in the meat industry, Agriculture or the construction industry face structural discrimination in their everyday work due to special regulations in labor law, as well as social and political conditions. This evening the focus will be on the perspective of migrant seasonal workers in agriculture. The Fair Farm Work Initiative Alliance has been observing systematic problems in the production of fruit and vegetables for years.
But more and more seasonal workers are fighting back, even if countervailing power is difficult.
This lecture and the subsequent discussion invite you to think about forms of solidarity, unionization and alternative structures in agriculture, to counteract the system of exploitation.
