The murder of Walter Lübcke - a year later

Ann-Kathrin Mogge (Kassel) in conversation with Matheus Hagedorny (Leipzig)

Am 2. June 2019 became the Kassel government president Walter Lübcke (1953-2019) shot in front of his apartment building. Stephan Ernst confessed to the murder three weeks later. The alleged perpetrator had belonged to the extreme right-wing scene for decades. Although the confessor claimed in a first confession, to have acted alone, spoke much for it since his exposure, that the act was inspired by previous terrorist attacks and promoted through a network.

Exactly one year after the murder, we want to look back on the background and the discussion of this political murder. How became the president of the Kassel administrative district, Walter Lübcke, the target of an extreme right-wing attack? Right-wing populist campaigns against Walter Lübcke had an impact on the perpetrator? How to evaluate state, Politics and civil society in Kassel the attack?

The interlocutors:

Ann-Kathrin Mogge is a historian and lives in Kassel. She researches the history of the extreme right and works in political education.
