The documentary traces the history of the left-wing solidarity organization, from its founding in the Weimar Republic to forest occupations, Climate protests and fights against neo-Nazis in the present. Founded as a mass organization of the revolutionary workers' movement, destroyed by the Nazis in the 1930s, rediscovered in the 70s, Today, Rote Hilfe is the largest cross-current anti-repression organization in Germany. The film is also a journey through time 100 years of social movements and revolutionary struggles, with all its successes and defeats.

In addition to a classification of the historical background by representatives of the Hans Litten Archive, an alleged RAF supporter and a nuclear power plant opponent report on their experiences in custody. The challenges of the present are exemplified by the cases of Stuttgart anti-fascists, who have to serve long prison sentences after clashes with neo-Nazis and the case of a forest squatter, who had to go to prison for months after a scuffle in the trees.

This becomes clear, that support practice, Topics and political priorities some continuities, but also experienced changes and breaks. Practical and organized solidarity is a unifying element that runs through all decades.
