word and deed – Poetry settings and other music by Hank Ockmonic (vocals and guitar) and Yana Krasutskaya (violin) with songs about texts by Klabund, Erich Kaestner, Robert Frost, William Wordsworth, Christian Morgenstern, Hermann Hesse and others as well as further songs e.g. from Hungary, Italy, Scotland and also by Ennio Morricone.
Hank Ockmonic is a composer from Kassel and as such already has quite a few “home songs” written (“The Hessian Way”, “At The Oberhessen Hills Where I Was Born”), always with a wink, significantly in English, which he performs with the bands Hank and the Shakers and Speed Chicken. In the difficult times of the pandemic, he received a grant from GEMA, which resulted in the poetry settings of this evening.
He studied music and art in Kassel, has Upper Hesse and Hungarian roots and has been writing songs all his life. He has delighted numerous fans with the Ennio Morricone stage program, the new Shakers record with their own compositions was released 2022.
Yana Krasutskaya is from Belarus, lives since 2014 in Kassel, is a concert violinist, studied with Prof. Tianwa Yang. She was successful in numerous national and international competitions, made a guest appearance at the Deutsches Theater in Göttingen and plays in a sensational duo with the cellist Gang Wang. She has played many concerts with Hank and the Shakers.
The poem settings of this evening oscillate between touching and bizarre forlornness (Klabund), hintersinnigem Humor (Kastner, Morgenstern) and English-language folk idiom (Frost, Wordsworth), musically settled between folk sound, Blues and Expressionism.
