With house – how quickly leaving had been and how slow returning is The Kasseler Kunstverein presents the most comprehensive multimedia work to date by the German-Korean artist Surya Suran Gied. Based on autobiographical fragments, her work revolves around reconnecting with cultural influences and redefining identity - not through language, but rather a decidedly artistic one, perceptual practice.
Paintings are combined in her expansive installation, Sculpture, Video and souvenir objects into a collage that can be experienced directly, the familiar narrative is deconstructed and makes room for another, migrant-influenced remembering opens up.
The long-standing areas of tension in her work between the familiar and alienation come together, Structure and permeability, everyday and institutional.
