The world is changing: The climate crisis is worsening, China and the USA are fighting for dominance, and the EU is trying, not to lose connection. While international forms of cooperation are becoming less important, bilateral agreements and geopolitics come to the fore. These tensions are particularly evident in Latin America: Mexico is one of the main recipients of American tariffs, the EU is trying, deal with strategic climate- and energy partnerships in the region to secure access to raw materials and hydrogen. China is now one of the most important trading partners.
Latin America is becoming a geopolitical focal point in this game of zones of influence. New winners and losers emerge. Conflicting foreign policy preferences pose enormous problems for many countries and force them to seek social solutions, political and economic compensation options.
The conference discusses the effects of these geopolitical shifts for Latin America based on current dynamics and selected problem areas.
target group:
People from development policy, civil society and international organizations, social movements, volunteers, Scientists, student, politically interested people
