Malo Moray is an award-winning double bass player from Leipzig, Theater composer, Producer and performer. He works interdisciplinary in the ambient genres, Krautrock, Psychedelic, Jazz und Sounddesign. With his oscillating band Malo Moray & His Inflatable Knee He searches for deep self-deepening as a response to our uprooted zeitgeist. He most recently composed for theater productions in Munich (Grimme Prize winner Thomas Darchinger) and commissions in Leipzig and Gotha. His previous album ATOLLS, produced by Grammy Award winner Marc Urselli (Lou Reed, Nick Cave, Laurie Anderson…) was as “the cosmic psychedelic album of the year!” (AS Magazine) praised and awarded several times (Fedrigoni Top Award Milan, Pop Prize Saxony, Kulturfunke Prize 2025).

With his new album EMBRACE Malo Moray celebrates the art of slowness: Double bass and electronics merge to create deep soundscapes between ambient, Krautrock and jazz. Improvised lyrics sink into the subconscious, curious listening becomes an invitation. An intense improvisation concert between Brian Eno, Faust and Sunn O))).

Funk – a style of music, which emerged at the end of the 1960s from musical genres such as soul, Jazz and blues developed. The main ingredient is groove.

This groove brought „soft cake“ on a rehearsal weekend full of improvisation and jam sessions. What is striking is the special line-up consisting of the rhythm instruments bass (Mathis Case), Keyboard (Henry Mardorf), Drums (Johann Bahr) and a wind instrument – the trumpet (Philipp Ment).

The “soft cake” program is characterized by a good mix of original compositions such as Blue Knight, Slow Walker and Night Lights as well as covers like Clint Eastwood.

The American funk band Vulfpeck, for example, provides inspiration for the music of “soft cake”., as well as jazz greats like Herbie Hancock.
