MARILYN HARVEST: The most exciting newcomer band in Kassel, MARILYN HARVEST, makes a flat indie pop/dream pop mix with a nod to the chanson in places. The 20-year-old singer Nele has been leaving her mark on the music scene in various constellations for years, as well as all-round musician Luca Hettling. Now they are doing this together with their new project MARYLIN HARVEST and combine melancholy and world-weariness with an impressive expression and an unparalleled charisma.
The songs are direct and uncluttered transcriptions of feelings straight from the heart, which are sometimes dreamy musically, but sometimes also form an angry carpet of sound. The headstrong one, her smoky voice fits perfectly into her compositions. These are reminiscent of a mixture of Patty Smith and Lana Del Rey with touches of artists, like Cocteau Twins or Etna. MARILYN HARVEST fit seamlessly into this series.
Thematically, that’s what frontwoman Nele is all about, Between- and shades of gray to be revealed and, above all, normalized. Through her texts, gaps are intended to become normal spaces, said the singer and guitarist about her high expectations, social goals. There is no otherness, if everything is normal. And the musical mastermind Luca does the same thing in the sound images. First 2022 the two started the project, above all, because they were already fans of each other before. From the beginning there was a blind musical understanding of each other. No negotiation processes, acoustically, how visually unique and made from a single piece.
The duo's second concert took place directly at the Kassler Kulturzelt 400 people. Support shows followed, Appearances at the Open Flair Festival and studio stays. A first work was created, which is exceptionally sophisticated and complex. A debut, which has already outgrown this name before release.
GODOTS: It's getting loud and angry again, it's about fear & Frustration and fun & love. After the release of their second album, the GODOTS from Hanover are back on stage. Her debut album It’s Gonna Be OK appeared 2022. Now join in Where Do We Start? to.
The GODOTS play for a better future, for peace and love. But they don't hold back their anger about the current circumstances. They specifically denounce social problems such as homelessness, Climate policy, the economic system and isolation. But the beautiful stories about spending nights together at the beach or thoughts about a successful bank robbery also find their place in the five-piece band's wide repertoire. After all, not everything is bad. And yet the question hovers over everything: Where Do We Start? Where do we start??
The diversity of the topics, which the new album deals with, is also reflected in the sound. In addition to “Faded”, “Simple Things” and “Kingfisher” as powerful rock songs give “When You Stop Trying” and “Don’t Wake Me Up” a calmer tone, more melancholic tone. The latter is accompanied on the piano as a feature by friend and composer Jarle Kiesé. There are also two further features with the brass arrangement by Wisecräcker in “Night On Malta” and a vocal performance by DUCS frontman Christian Kretzschmar in “Waves”.. With the stoner storm “Dirt // Germany 2099” show the GODOTS, that they also implement the desire for a lack of boundaries in their music.
