The trip to Kassel went without a return for the Dutchman Cornelis van den Nieuwendijk, as he 1941 was sent to the German Reich from the employment office in Rotterdam on a “work assignment”.. “Off to Kassel – without returning” was also the title of his memoir, which gives its name to the district tours on the subject of Nazi forced labor. The tour will last approximately two hours.
Village and villages come together in Bettenhausen- and industrial history. Here, Nazi forced labor can be seen as everyday life- and understand mass crimes. The tour offers an overview of the mass crime of Nazi forced labor with examples from Bettenhausen companies, addresses individual fates and shows them, where traces of forced labor in Bettenhausen are still visible today.
