Peanut butter from the women's collective Musow Lafia from Mali

Lecture by Afrique-Europe-Interact // Series of events organized by the Nutrition Council in Kassel and the region

The Musow Lafia collective was founded in July 2018 founded as part of Afrique-Europe-Interact: On the one hand, to support each other as women on different levels - that's why Musow Lafia advocates for “women's peace” on the political level, among other things (That's the literal translation from Bambara). On the other hand, Musow Lafia is about food production and processing. Products produced include peanut butter and fonio, a very nutritious one, regional, couscous-like grain.

This summer Musow Lafia exported a large quantity of peanut butter to Germany for the first time. This step had to be prepared for years. How did it succeed in the end and what was the biggest challenge? What is the current situation of Musow Lafia in Bamako and what goals does the collective pursue with export? We want to talk together about the work of Musow Lafia and the challenges and opportunities of fair direct trade in the context of North-South redistribution.

It carries in front of Moritz, who from the European section of Afrique-Europe-Interact has been working with Musow Lafia for years and himself already on site in Bamako.

Before that there is always in the district center like every Tuesday 18:00 Clock Canteen for everyone: delicious, Climate-friendly food – plant-based from regional, organic and rescued foods.
