GENERATION Y PUNK – UPDATE OF A SUBCULTURE
We have come up with something completely new: a German punk documentary without the Toten Hosen! It's about DIY punk in Germany between the years 2000 and 2020. Our focus is the influence of digitalization and the Internet on a scene, which worked purely analog for so long. In addition to bands, there are also organizers:within, People from house projects and concert goers:to speak inside. Because we don't just want to hear the same stories about aging musicians' excessive drinking, but rather convey a diverse picture of a subculture that is still alive. But it should also be personal and a little nostalgic: We delve into the past of punk- and underground scene, Let's follow in the footsteps of our adolescence and reminisce together. The people interviewed are, just like the makers of the documentary Ronny & Ronja, all part of Generation Y and thus socialized in the scene in the early 2000s. In terms of content, we deal intensively with the DIY aspect of the punk scene, far away from major labels, famous bands and professional structures. We create insights into the scene underground, where left politics, Spontaneity and “just do it” are the credo.
The documentary consists of 3 parts that run independently of each other 55 minutes, one of which is shown per performance. The demonstration is accompanied by a DIY lecture: “Just do it – How left-wing subculture comes to life through self-involvement” This includes an open discussion about subculture, Self-empowerment and courage to do things. On Saturday April 25th 2026 we will show the part in Kassel: „Fazines, Fascos and Gen Y”
