The film screening is framed by two 15-minute inputs each:

  • Evelyn Riemer, Research assistant in the city department of the city- and regional development of the University of Kassel: “To a blue sky above the Ruhr? Sustainable transformation from the city's perspective- and regional economics " (Authors: Prof. Dr. Anna Growe/Evelyn Riemer)

The doctoral college just invites you to look together: The Ruhr area has been a region for years, in which different dimensions of transformation overlap and people have to deal with the challenges of post-industrial development. There documentary movies “The opposite of gray” accompanies various initiatives and people, to search for this handling from below.

“Power surfaces, Vacancy, anonymity, Standstill - not all between Dortmund and Duisburg want to come to terms with it. On the contrary. More and more people are discovering opportunities and intervening in everyday urban life. A living room in the middle of the street, neighborhood, Community gardens. The opposite of gray shows different groups, The practical utopias and open spaces live and fight for a solidarity and ecological coexistence in the urban area. ”
