H., C. and b. from L. look like three physicists in Hawaiian shirts, who have occupied your party cellar. Your first album sounds, as if they had recorded it there too. Under laboratory conditions, of course.
Anyone who has ever enjoyed it, to see the Math Rock Experimental Band live, he knows, that this party is best held with three tube televisions and a tumult of computer-generated avatars. The first album-length release has been available since this fall: nine edge-packed sound excursions for enthusiastic listening, Disturbing and confusing.
Hard to understand in one sitting, This debut remains in your mind as a well-filled cabinet of curiosities, which is held together by plenty of precision and a delicate sound. Excited, yes, rowdy no.
With a certain level of madness and a blunt attention to detail, the Leipzigers have all sorts of compositional subtleties and a good handful of pop culture references in a nutshell 40 Steamed together for minutes. Where outrageous surf rock borrowings break even the sturdiest guitar wall, A pinch of 90s rock nostalgia brings the necessary warmth to the crystal clear math rock framework. A sound, who easily manages the balancing act between the academy and the AJZ, and where jazzers and hardcore kids can feel equally at home. (Stefan Ibrahim)
