On Safe Abortion Day we will show the film FLY SO FAR and then talk to director Celina Escher about the production and the fact, dass ihr Film mittlerweile in El Salvador verboten wurde.
The film:
When Teodora Vázquez wakes up in the hospital, her nightmare begins: After a miscarriage, she is blamed, of killing her baby - and charged with aggravated murder. FLY SO FAR is accompanied by Vázquez, the voice actress of "The Seventeen", a group of women, who share the same fate. They all live in El Salvador, a country, in which not only abortions, but also stillbirths are criminalised. Vázquez's case has become a symbol of cruel hardship, with which action is taken against affected women in El Salvador. But it's also a film about empowerment, resilience and solidarity.
Der Safe Abortion Day:
In the year 1990 called out a network of activists in Latin America and the Caribbean, die „Campaign 28 September", the day of action 28. September into life. Seitdem kämpfen die Aktivist*innen in Lateinamerika und der Karibik jedes Jahr für einen legalen und sicheren Schwangerschaftsabbruch.
In 2019 the pro-choice movement in Germany joined the day of action.
Der Film läuft auf Spanisch mit deutschen Untertiteln.
Tickets normally cost 8€ and reduced 6€ and are available now in the film shop.
