Spacestation [isl] / CARG (Alternative)

Sandershaus, Kassel

The band played in the early days Spacestation Party-ready shoegaze. At some point they stumbled through The Velvet Underground and decided to go other ways. Perhaps the gray everyday life of their homeland is also responsible for the new orientation. Life in Iceland is characterized by a lot of darkness and cold. Most of the time, everyday life is bleak and you can count the number of sunny days per year on two hands. Nevertheless, people try to fill their lives with beautiful things. When they get away from the island, they quickly become homesick. So Spacestation write songs with serious topics in the guise of snappy Sixteens psychedelia, stoic Krautrock and early post punk. Songs about unrequited love, that set the body in motion and become embedded in the ear canal. There's a song with more four-letter words than could fit on a cow's skin to sway along to. If my Icelandic isn't too rusty, I think I can also hear danceable instructions for making a sports cigarette. That sounds very strange on paper, dark and cynical, However, the music creates a good mood and a pleasantly euphoric feeling in the stomach. We can't wait, to experience the optimistic nihilism of Spacestation live!

Timothy Hammer and Sidney Mantei met at the Kassel School of Art. Before that, both had already been musically active in the past and it quickly became apparent, that there is a common intersection. The sound of CARG is characterized by drum machines, Synth carpets and floating guitars. Comparisons of the Cure with the Seventeen Seconds phase are obvious. Some of their songs are reminiscent of underground NDW Karacher in the style of Abwärts or DAF. Her lyrics deal with topics such as sadness and insecurity. The music itself, however, comes across as sunnier. Catchy tunes and a beautiful singing voice make the listeners' faces light up and move people to dance. When I was able to see the two of them on this year's art school tour, I was very excited. Later it turned out, that this was their first gig ever. Carg as support for Spacestation is a perfect match, because the chemistry of the two chapels is similar. Musically, both bands move in different directions, which promises a great and varied evening.
