Our cities are particularly affected by advancing climate change. The high building density and the sealing of areas affect cities particularly during heat waves and heavy rain. In addition, there are exhaust gases from cars and fossil building heating systems.
The question was “How can our city better protect itself from the threat of climate change and what can Kassel do?”, “To make your contribution to climate protection” should, among other things,. the following questions are answered:
- “How can we make the city of Kassel resilient against drought?, floods and heavy rain?“
- How can a forest garden contribute to climate protection and climate adaptation in the city?
- What importance do green spaces have for the urban climate??
- How can climate maps support land use planning?
Am 27.11.2024 one 18 Clock states Dr. Jochen Wulfhorst from the University of Kassel presents and points out the sponge city of Kassel, how these measures can protect us from extreme impacts of climate change. Afterwards, the projects on urban forest gardens and their impact on climate protection will be presented by Ms. Lena Chmielewski from Environment- and Kassel Garden Office presented. We then call for a lively discussion.
Am 4.12,2024 one 17 Clock lectures Prof. Lutz Katzschner from the Climate Institute- and energy concepts (INKS) the topic “What importance do green spaces have for the urban climate” – followed by Sebastian Kupski (INKS) with the question “How can climate maps support land use planning?”?“. This will be followed by the internet platform “Green in the City” by Tibor Grote (BUND) presented.
