war starts here. Action conference in Kassel am 26. March
In summer 2022 finds the documenta, the world's largest exhibition of contemporary art, in Kassel. documenta fifteen is curated by the Indonesian collective ruangrupa, which particularly emphasizes the importance of sustainability and global justice. The armaments site in Kassel, an important center of the German war industry, is clearly opposed to this claim. 365 Days a year weapons are produced here and exported all over the world.
Up to a million tourists:inside visit the documenta and for 100 days the world looks to Kassel. We will use this and resist the city's arms companies and the devastating consequences of arms exports together during documenta fifteen, rearmament and foreclosure afford.
Our actions will be as diverse and determined as the movements we come from. The demand for an immediate halt to all armaments production unites us. It is ecologically catastrophic. In a world with limited resources, the production of war machines, used solely for destruction, no space. Their immediate abolition is a necessary and concrete step for a sustainable, liveable and just future.
The lives lost and societies destroyed by war weigh even more heavily in the Global South, which has been badly affected by the climate crisis – conflicts, from which the arms industry in Kassel benefits directly. This is particularly evident in Rojava, where the Turkish state with German weapons our friend:inside the Kurdish freedom movement and thus prevented the development of a livable society.
The same corporations, who export weapons and thus make wars possible, deliver the European border walls to seal off refugees at the same time. These border walls are flanked and legitimized by the racist narrative of defending the prosperity of Global North societies against migrants:within. These are not new developments. These are historical continuities. They have become a global system since the age of colonization and classical imperialism.
peace, social justice and environmental sustainability are inextricably linked to overcoming domination and submission. Finally, looking ahead to a peaceful world shows the need for a feminist perspective. Actual security requires not only the absence of war, but also the abolition of unjust social conditions, including unequal gender ratios.
We invite all climate activist:within, Feminist:within, Antirassist:within, Antifascist:within, Artist:inside and all other fighters:intercede for a peaceful and just world, at the action conference shared plans for a hot, anti-militarist summer 2022 to forge in Kassel. Our diversity, our different perspectives and ideas are our strength.
