Symposium

On the Threshold of Meaning – translation practices in dance

curated by Bettina Helmrich and Ilana Reynolds

Translation processes are always an interplay of de-contextualization and re- Contextualization is. Translation in art takes place on different levels. An aesthetic translation of urban experience occurs in artistic work, from strangers (everyday)The culture, of cultural possibilities and forms of understanding. The experiences transform in the translation processes, in that they are constantly given new, sensual frameworks in their artistic work and thus new interpretations emerge. The symposium On the threshold of meaning – translation practices in dance is a three-day exchange between scientists, artists and the public aesthetically, media and cultural translation processes in dance. Artistic practices are often complex systems of meaning: between the situational, the everyday, the cultural, the social, between language and movement and different media and materials. This is what the symposium will be about, like the understanding- and readability framework in dance can be reconsidered. Through lectures, Panel discussions, Performances, Workshops, Working groups and audience participation will be the participants:have the option inside, to get involved, to question their own creative processes, to explore and think about, how translation strategies can be used, to strengthen the connection to their respective artistic communities.

Performances Doppelabend

timetraces

They create fleeting movement in a dance-musical dialogue- and sound sketches, whose physical presence creates moments of perception that are both intense and fragile. Dancer and musician venture into unknown territory and meet in their different forms of expression in the immediate intensity of improvisation. Like precise seismographs, they sound out vibrations and tensions in space in constant transformation and in precarious balances. What visible and invisible fleeting traces do movement leave behind?, Sound and presence in space and in memory?

Subtle nuances are particularly fascinating and enriching, Shades and facets between the lines in different languages. Music and dance are movement in time and space and can touch you on multiple sensory levels. Open and specific at the same time, they are related to poetry. Movement can translate into sound, Transforming sound into movement. Do you need translations??

Flight of thoughts

Flight of thoughts is a gnawing of non-verbal thoughts, that unfold in the air.
It is a sound-poetic dialogue, in which the synergy between the two elements creates almost imperceptible vibrations, both emotionally and physically, and traces of memories, Echos, breaths and images. The silence becomes a support, where the gesture becomes a word and the sound becomes a vibration.
