Am 24. July 1994 revolted approx. 40 Deportation prisoners in the former correctional facility (JVA) "Elves" in Kassel. They had previously experienced poor prison conditions and were up to 18 Detained months before her deportation.
As a result of these conditions and under the pressure of impending deportation, the prisoners resisted the conditions and occupied the prison. In the subsequent negotiations with the police, they demanded that the deportation orders be revoked and that they be given the opportunity, to travel to other European countries. But the negotiations failed.
The trial observation group “Elwe” spoke about the subsequent police violence against the revolters as “systematic abuse”. Even in the process of the revolt there was little willingness to provide a complete explanation.
The uprising before 32 years was one of many struggles of asylum seekers against the racist asylum- and migration policy in Germany.
