520.000 Euros for soil renovation at all-day schools
It became known in the finance committee of the city of Kassel, that at the Am Lindenberg all-day school in the forest field the soil is contaminated with pollutants 520.000 Euro needs to be exchanged. When asked by the Kassel Left Party, the magistrate explained, that it is a contamination with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAK) acts, which are considered highly toxic and carcinogenic.
According to the magistrate, the pollution in the soil is due to the bombings of Kassel that year 1943 back. Kassel, as the armaments capital at the time, still bears the consequences of the war today. Unexploded bombs are also repeatedly discovered during construction work in the city, which have to be defused at great expense.
While still 80 Years later, millions will have to be spent on clearing up the legacy of past wars, Kassel is once again expanded into a center of armaments production for Germany's war capability.
