Student protest prevents abolition of civil clause
After a turbulent Senate meeting, the University Senate voted on the civil clause 04. November postponed. The adjournment was preceded by a heated debate about the civil clause and student participation.
The Senate wanted to finally decide on the abolition of the civil clause today. With the postponement he is responding to the student body's protest. A general assembly with almost 800 Students voted on the clause last week.
Even before the meeting began, numerous students gathered in the crowded Senate hall and criticized the procedure. Hundreds also demonstrated loudly in front of the building for the preservation of the clause.
The Senate bill reaffirms – unlike that 2013 decided voluntary commitment - no longer the civil character of the university. Critics fear, that the new version could enable military research.
