Successful school catering has many facets: It's about costs, health, Climate protection and participation. – Above all, the offers should taste good and not end up in the trash. Also legal ones
and organizational questions are faced by committed schools, who would like to expand or restructure their cafeteria and do their part to protect the climate. Because of climate change, extreme weather events are increasing, like the hail storm, that in June 2024 also hit schools and daycare centers in Kassel and the surrounding area. Or longer periods of drought, which lead to crop failures and thus rising food prices.

Our food system helps 23-42% according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) contributes greatly to the climate crisis. But this is precisely why school catering offers great potential for greater climate protection, more biodiversity and the health of our children. Last but not least, more regional school nutrition strengthens local added value. So how can you eat delicious food?, manageable costs and climate- and health aspects must be brought under one roof?
How does the city of Kassel promote sustainable school nutrition? What does research recommend??
What positive experiences and examples are there in the region and beyond??
And what role does the involvement of children play?, the kitchen team and other stakeholders?
Good school meals may even promote a hunger to learn?

process:

  • 18:00 p.m. – dinner:
The canteen for everyone invites you to a climate-friendly buffet with regional and seasonal ingredients and a relaxed exchange (free, respectively. Donation based).

Guests from science, City administration, Discuss civil society and practice, like schools
can make a contribution to a more climate-friendly and healthier diet.
The aim is, among other things, to initiate an exchange forum for interested schools and committed individuals.

target group:

School administrators are particularly welcome, teachers, interested parents(advisory boards), internal school committees for school meals and school cafeteria cooking teams – as well as everyone, the value of sustainable nutrition, Climate justice and the promotion of organic regional products.
