Ferment organic waste instead of composting it
Less greenhouse gases through Bokashi
Workshop of the Nutrition Council Kassel and Region
It accumulates in all of us every day: Waste, including paper, Packaging and residual waste. Around a third of all household waste in Germany is organic waste. The majority of these organic materials are collected by waste disposal companies, but some also ends up in the compost.
Actually a good thing, because this way the nutrients stay directly on site. However, it's not that easy, to compost properly. And what many people are not aware of: not well operated, Compost emits significant greenhouse gases. An alternative is the fermentation of organic waste, also known by the Japanese term “Bokashi”.. This is possible in any apartment with little resources.
As part of the event, the basics of fermentation of organic waste will first be presented. And then it becomes very practical: Together we ferment all organic waste, that occurred that day in the canteen for everyone.
