Canteen food is becoming more expensive
The Kassel Student Union has announced, from the 21. September to increase the prices of the university cafeteria. In the future, the cafeteria food at the different cafeteria locations will be available to students per dish 20 to 30 cents more expensive, for university employees up to 60 Cent.
The student union justifies the step with higher food costs, Energy-, Personal- and cleaning costs. According to the management, state subsidies only cover around twelve percent of the student union's budget. An increase for 2027 has not yet been decided.
The costs of the increased prices are therefore primarily borne by students and employees. Even small surcharges add up when used daily and have a severe impact on people with low monthly incomes.
While the federal government the announced increase in BAföG rates only in August by half a year to the middle 2027 has postponed, rise residential- and living costs for students.
