Works meeting on the possible sale of Alstom to Rheinmetall
Yesterday's works meeting of the locomotive manufacturer Alstom brought around 950 Employees have no clarity about the future of the location. Alstom is negotiating a sale of the plant. The most likely interested party is the arms company Rheinmetall.
The works council and employees fear for their jobs and demand transparency. They reject a switch to armaments production and are clearly in favor of maintaining locomotive manufacturing.
At the meeting, the tense mood of the employees became clear: They expressed suspicion, the work has long since been sold, and accused the works council and site management, to know more, than they say publicly. The plant manager was booed.
As militarization increases, more and more industrial companies are considering switching their production to defense equipment, partly despite a good order situation in their original divisions.
