Demo “Remember. resistance. Consequences. " at the 08. May

The initiative organized on Liberation Day “Anti-fascist May” a demonstration with several intermediate rallies, at the up to 500 People participated. Under the motto “Remember. resistance. Consequences.” Right-wing activities in Kassel were pointed out and left-wing struggles were taken to the streets.

The demonstration moved from the northern part of the city via Stern and the regional council to the town hall. With the goal, to point out right-wing and racist continuities in Germany, A wide variety of perspectives from anti-fascist groups and initiatives were shown through the speeches at the rally locations.

The demonstration at Kemal-Altun-Platz started with a performance by rapper Black Snowman 34. This is part of an anti-racist hip-hop collective in Kassel, which was recently founded. The “Initiative of April 6th” from Kassel deals with the murder of Halit Yozgat by the NSU and deals with the involvement of state authorities, especially the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, with right-wing networks. The VVN-BdA also spoke and emphasized the need to think broadly about anti-fascism and to anchor it in society.

In addition to these Kassel initiatives, a survivor of the terrorist attack in Halle also had her say. At the end of each speech, demands from the speakers printed on wooden signs were given to the demonstrators.

Die Initiative “Antifascist May” demanded in her closing speech, To think broadly about antifascism, “to counter right-wing violence and everyday discrimination at all levels and in all places – be it at work, in the street, in the shishabars, the Internet cafe, the synagogues or the town halls”.
