vigil: Feminicide in Schwalmstadt

In the afternoon of the 17. June 2022 A feminist vigil in Kassel took place again on the occasion of a feminicide in northern Hesse.

It was the second vigil in downtown Kassel each year 2022, which was dedicated to a woman, who was the victim of a femicide in the northern Hesse area. The reason for the vigil was a femniicide in Treysa near Schwalmstadt. Am 07. June 2022 A 53-year-old woman was shot by her 58-year-old ex-partner in a supermarket.

There is talk of a “femniicide”., when women or other oppressed genders are murdered because of their gender. That's about right, when a man sees his sense of entitlement hurt so much by a separation, that he then kills his ex-girlfriend. In their speech during the vigil, the demonstrators:This fact is particularly highlighted inside: “We are making it clear, that this was not an isolated incident. These murders are systematic and they arise from the patriarchy, what permeates our society!“, said a speaker at the vigil.

On the morning of the crime, the woman filed a police report against the perpetrator for bodily harm, Stalking and coercion reimbursed. The report was preceded by a police operation in the 53-year-old's apartment the day before, where the perpetrator was expelled. According to the police, the woman's statements at the station did not indicate any specific danger to the woman.

“The murder of the 53-year-old in Schwalmstadt makes it clear to us once again, that the police and the state do not provide adequate protection for women affected by violence and other oppressed genders! It makes you sad and angry, because for the murder in Schwalmstadt there was – like so many femicides – clear indications, that a dangerous situation existed: the murder was preceded by patriarchal violence, the woman had separated from the perpetrator and his appearance in her apartment showed, that the perpetrator apparently couldn’t accept the separation.”, said a speaker at the vigil.

After speeches, the vigil ended, by the participants:inside sang a song to the tune of Bella Ciao: “You take us sisters, on all days. Make them small, makes them quiet and invisible. But we won't forget them, Their torment was not in vain!“.
